DJ Donnovan Bad Boy Smith ProfileDonnovan first gigs were at the age of 16. In those days he played hip hop and rare groove mainly at soul parties. His DJ names varied from "The Baron", "Quick Eddie" and finally his current title of Donnovan Smith. The Bad Boy tag was adopted after being tagged at raves by the Top Buzz MC Mad P. Coming from Gloucester in the rave days of 91 / 92 Donnovan was noticed by nearby Cheltenham promoters Fantazia and later Obsession and gave mass appeal playing at huge events like the 25,000 people Fantazia One Step Beyond. By 1994 with the scene moving on from old skool Donnovan's career exploded after adopting the new sound of drum n bass, playing for the likes of Elevation, Utopia, Life and the Astoria. As well as being a busy DJ he also worked managing the jungle section of the Record Basement, and trend setting underground record store in Reading. It was from their that he joined the Street Beats label and formed a team with producer & engineer Knowle Newton. Donnovan can be found still giging on the circuit today.
